I've waited a while... What's the story with brooks saddles? Why is there an obsession? I just don't get it! Saw the most ridiculous one yesterday, got a photo on the phone. A black fancy Cube with front shock and disc brakes AND a brooks saddle.
Can someone please explain it for me?
Thanks

They are comfy!
It takes a little while before you break them in (or, arguably, they break you in), but once you do they are very comfortable. I will be putting my one back on soon

How are they comfy? They are just leather, aren't they?
They look vintagey I suppose.

Because they are leather they shape and mould to your arse and gain flexibility. Somewhat like a pair of leather shoes

Cool thanks. Just been wondering for an age what the story is with their popularity.

Comfy as hell, I've two of them, the big beefy B17 and a sportier Swift, once they're broken in they're great as long as you take care of them. Don't see myself changing for a long time.

I've heard the b17 narrow is a good compromise between the two

Definitely deceptive, looks like it would be more comfortable sitting on razor wire! Do not think i'll be swapping over any time soon.

The B17 is good and couch-like. I've put a fair bit of mileage on it and she's been good to me, the Swift I got for xmas and haven't used anywhere near enough as it's on my 'sunday' bike and she don't go out when it's raining! So far so good though. If you are getting the Swift let me know and I'll dig out the place in the UK where I got mine, I was looking for the cheaper chrome railed one but they didn't have it in stock so they gave me the titanium one which is nearly double the price for something ridiculous like €115, on chain reaction they're just shy of €200. Good guys.

The B17 is better for a more upright position while the Swift is better for a racier position. I have the B17 on my commuter and a Swift formerly on my tourer, right now on my winter road bike. Have a Swallow on my summer bike and a Team Pro on my fixed road bike. As others say they are comfortable and heavy. I have looked for something "modern" and lighter that suits but so far no luck. I have found other saddles that I am fine on for a day but the next day they start to be annoying. I like the look of the Brooks on some of my bikes (like the tourer) but to be honest would prefer not to have one on my racers.

i crashed about two years ago and my month old team pro bounced off the road, both rails snapped.

not convinced about the build quality versus price.
